When inspecting scrap metal, radiation, chemical and explosion safety is monitored, which is a mandatory procedure. Important criteria that determine the quality of scrap metal are the background radiation level and density. Normal density levels range from 0.8 to 1.3 tons per cubic meter. In this case, the normal level of background radiation should not exceed 0.02 microroentgens per hour.
Inspection of steel sheets includes a detailed inspection by the inspector of the correct stacking during loading, separation and reliability of fastening of steel sheets in the form of bundles on pallets, since even a slight displacement of the cargo can pose a serious danger during transportation. Similar to other metal products, selective thickness measurements or laboratory analysis of the elemental content of the alloy are possible.
Steel slab inspection is a special procedure that includes mandatory control by the inspector of the correct stowage of the cargo. During ship loading, it is necessary to place slabs of all levels on wooden spacers of a certain thickness. The first level of slabs must be laid among the elements of the transverse floor, and the transverse spacers between the levels must be located at a certain distance from each other in the horizontal plane, while one of them must be vertical. Compliance with the requirements for laying slabs in the hold is mandatory to ensure the stability of the cargo during transportation and the safety of the vessel.
Rebar inspection involves strict adherence to all procedures related to loading, transportation, and unloading of the products, aiming to prevent possible damages, deformations, and bending of the rebar. The inspector's task is to verify the correctness of the cargo packaging, including bundling rebar into bundles, and ensuring the strength of packaging materials for mesh and frames.
Pipe inspections include checking that the quality of the cargo meets specifications, ASTM, ISO, and GOST standards. This involves a detailed inspection of the pipes for the presence of potential surface defects, such as mechanical defects, ruptures, as well as violations of the weld seams, including porosity, undercuts, irregularities and discrepancies in the volume of material for welding.
Ferroalloy inspections involve a systematic assessment of packaging, labeling, storage and transportation conditions to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. In addition, a visual inspection of the cargo is carried out to identify potential signs of surface oxidation, the presence of mold coating and slag welds.
