Timber, Lumber, Pellets and Wood Chips Inspection Services

Measuring and controlling the quality of timber using the group method

The procedure is carried out in accordance with state standards and the characteristics of a particular industry.
Advantages of the group method:
  • low cost;
  • high speed of work;
This method is suitable for assessing the quantity and quality of round logs used in pulp production, stacks and storage areas.

Piece method for measuring and quality control of round timber

Accounting for the volume of round timber using the piece-by-piece measurement method involves measuring the following parameters:
  • log length;
  • diameter;
  • calculation of the volume of a specific log model.
Piece measurements are more accurate than group measurements. With their help, our company’s specialists collect detailed information about the volume and quality of raw materials. However, this method of assessment takes much more time. It is used for examination of expensive raw materials of the woodworking industry (saw logs, plywood raw materials, etc.).

Inventory of timber warehouses

CVG experts conduct inventory of timber stocks in warehouses, industrial sites, and plots. During the inventory, the quantity, species composition, quality and compliance of round timber with technical documentation or other document presented by the customer for inventory of the warehouse are determined.

Measuring the volume and determining the quality of process chips

The company's surveyors measure wood chips and determine their quality. The primary objective is to assess the quality of processed chips by establishing the degree of compliance of specific quality indicators in selected samples with the given standards according to state regulations and/or other relevant documents.

Measuring the volume of bulk piles of bark, sawdust, and other timber

Measurement of the volume of bark, sawdust, and other timber, as well as industrial waste stored openly in bulk form (piles), is carried out using a SOKKIA Total Station or equivalent, with minimal error. These instruments, along with other measuring devices, undergo mandatory verification and possess appropriate certificates.

Quality and quantity inspection during loading on board:

Especially important when loading wood pellets
  • Checking the condition of holds before loading for moisture and other contaminants;
  • Checking hold covers for leaks;
  • Strict control over re-weighing at port scales;
  • Draft survey;
  • Full support of the loading process;
  • Sampling during loading using special equipment and formation of solid and composite samples;
  • Testing of selected samples for quality indicators in accordance with customer specifications;
  • Monitoring of loading and daily informing the client;
  • Sealing of ship holds;
  • Preparation of final reports.

What determines the cost of an inspection?

To calculate the cost of services, contact us
inspection location
Inspection location:
The cost of an inspector’s shift largely depends on the port in which the inspection is carried out. In large ports there is competition and the cost of inspector work is lower.
surveyor
Scope of work in the port and on the ship:
The number of inspectors and the cost of work largely depend on how detailed the information collected during the inspection should be. For example, inspecting fuel pellets is significantly different from inspecting wood lying in the open air in a port.
sample
Number of samples:
It is not always worth choosing wood samples and taking them to the laboratory. We recommend express methods for measuring wood moisture content, as the moisture content may change during sample testing in the laboratory.
lab testing
Selecting a laboratory and testing speed:
Depending on laboratory requirements, samples often have to be transported over long distances.
